OUTLINE for Theory of Knowledge Essay (TOK Essay)

Unlike standard academic disciplines, the Theory of Knowledge course uses a process of discovering and sharing students’ views on “knowledge questions” (an umbrella term for “everything that can be approached from a TOK point of view”), so “there is no end to the valid questions that may arise”, “there are many different ways to approach TOK,” “the sheer scope of the TOK course is daunting” and “teachers and students need the confidence to go too far outside their traditional comfort zones.”[1] Teachers have freedom to select a teaching methodology and course material that will convey the theoretical foundation of essential concepts, and may provide an environment in which these concepts can be discussed and debated. The focus of the discussion should not be the differentiation between “right” and “wrong” ideas, but on the quality of justification and a balanced approach to the knowledge claim in question.
It uses Areas of Knowledge and Ways of knowing (AOK and WOK)

answering question with the help of examples.
Example 1:
Abortions  emotion WOK gave me a view as my mother received her first child at the age of 14 and raised him to become a successful man although living under poor conditions at that time, then influenced ethics AOK my view as my mother that said every life us important and who thinks that in many cases abortion is just an easy way out, religion AOK also added to this view as my grandmother is religious and thinks it is wrong to abort (traditions of the family), when i first had my biology course science AOK changed my view as there is no ultimate point where the fetus starts being human and in some cases like the tay sachs disease which kills a child after two years, i think that abortions are reasonable.

Example 2:
Holocaust  (history AOK) gave me my first view in school,i was taught what the holocaust meant and what happened in 4th grade, i saw pictures (Perception WOK) and thought of it as something sad an dbad that had happened in the past but thats it, then (art AOK) in grade 9 changed my view, we saw pictures that people drew who had survived the holocaust and the emotions that one could see in the way those pictures were drawn made my view on the holocaust worse and opened my eyes to what had really happened and i began to cry because i could not understand how someone could do such a disgusting thing, ultimately i spoke to my other grandma and thats were (memory WOK) added to my view of the holocaust,as she had lost part of her family due to the holocaust and war, and she told me stories of who she had to take care of her brothers ans sisters and how she hadn’t replay had a youth.
